    Governor Kasich wants the conference committee to include another tax cut in the final version of the budget, this time for capital gains. And, like always, the administration in claiming that these cuts are going to pay for themselves. For the millionth time: no tax cut pays for its self. Ever.

    Looks like there is trouble in paradise. Leading House Republicans again refuse to say who sponsored the controversial charter amendments that removed oversight of these schools. Charter school supporters and the administration are once again denouncing the changes. Will House Republicans ever release who put these changes in?

  • JobsOhio Math, v. 2

    Given the lawsuit filed yesterday over Kasich’s JobsOhio plan, I am reminded that the math in the Governor’s budget about funding JobsOhio has never been adequately explained. We posted about it before, but that was before the budget bill was available and before the administration had testified in committee. Since then, the details seem to have changed slightly, but still don’t add up.

  • Toledo Blade on Liquor Privatization

    If you’ve read our continuing coverage of plans to privatize the state liquor monopoly to give Mark Kvamme and the team at JobsOhio some pocket change to work with, you know we see a lot of concerns with the funding proposal contained in the Governor’s budget. It seems we are not the only ones. The Toledo Blade had a strong editoral today about the wisdom of the plan.
