Just checking in with a process update. The Conference Committee for the budget bill (HB153) has announced its meeting schedule for this week. They will have a meeting tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. in the House Finance Hearing Room (Statehouse 313), presumably to unveil the conference report. What this means is, that for every provision in the budget where differences exist between the Governor, House or Senate versions, they will choose which of the versions (or some “option D” out of left field) will make it into the final draft.

If you plan to attend the hearing, you probably want to print a copy of the comparison document from LSC so you can follow along. As they run through the hundreds of items, they will indicate whether the Executive, House or Senate version will be adopted.

After that, there are “if needed” meetings scheduled for Friday and Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. I don’t think anyone expects that those meetings will actually happen, as most of the decisions will have already been made and testimony will not be welcome. But we’re all waiting to find out for sure.
