The Senate Finance Committee released their 15 page document today outlining all the changes they plan to make to the House passed version of the budget. Considering they had over 1,000 amendments to comb through the Senate is leaving a very large finger print on this budget.  We are going to go into a lot more detail in the coming days trying to hash out the impact of these changes but right now I wanted to take a moment to declare something. The clear loser in this budget is David Brennan and his Whitehat charter school management company.

It looks like the public out cry finally got to Republicans in the Senate and they have decided to remove all the changes the House made that would have repealed all oversight of charter schools in this state. I’ll let the Senate Republican press release take it from here:

Charter School Reform – reinstates quality and operational controls in existing law and adopts new accountability measures

Now, this bullet point wasn’t anywhere near the top of the press release. In fact, it was almost near the bottom. It was almost as if Senate Republicans didn’t want the House Republicans to know that they were removing their huge giveaway to David Brennan.

It shouldn’t be all that surprising that the Senate has caved on this issue. For two reasons. (1) When every charter school stakeholder comes out in clear opposition to the removal of these oversight provisions and says the changes will make Ohio a laughing stock something is probably going to be done.  (2) Voters in Ohio right now are not really on board it seems with the Kasich/Republican bus. Poll after poll is showing sinking support for not only this budget but SB 5, the Governor himself, and the Republican agenda in general. I don’t expect a drastic reversal of course from the Republicans because these charter school provisions were so egregious that removing them from the budget was a politically easy thing to do. I do believe that there has to be at least some thinkers in the party looking at these numbers and starting to question the path the party is on.

One thing reporters should be questioning is that when the House passed their budget the Governor had been on record saying he agreed with mostly everything in their version, so much so he put out a press release saying that. These changes were far reaching so I have to believe the Governor’s office had to be aware that they were going to be included.  Well, this afternoon Kasich was again quoted as saying he had spoken with Senate leadership over the weekend and he was fine with the changes. So, it begs the question, where does Kasich stand on these charter school provisions. He can’t be for it being in the budget and also for it not being in it. Will someone who does this for an actual living please ask the man where he stands on this issue?

  1. Well, that’s good news. Because when David Brennan loses, the school children of Ohio win.

  2. American Grandchildren’s Children Victims:
Americas Grandchildren’s children are the victims. Of Representatives US the Government of this Representative Republic elects. That defies demands of Natural Law: what Mother Nature, God, or Whatever Power decreed to be the reality of the real world, democracy, capitalism, the US Constitution, and free, fair, and affordable commerce?

Demanding every corporation, farmer, business, outsourcer sweatshop, and nonprofit, tax-exempt, organization and Church markets the cost in the wholesale and retail price of his or her product and service. Of every workers, consumers, and taxpayers living including pension and health care. Enabling parents to love, nurse, nurture, discipline, protect, and provide, for every child (job) they conceive and fund schools, infrastructure, local and national security, government services, and etc.; with money derived from wages or independent business profit.

Representatives deny Government workers, parents, Veterans, Fathers disqualified for affirmative action with white skin, Union workers, consumers, taxpayers, and America’s grandchildren’s children Collective Bargaining Rights.

And hold Government workers, parents, Veterans, Fathers disqualified for affirmative action with white skin, Union workers, consumers, taxpayers, and America’s grandchildren’s children accountable. To pay for all stimulus packages, tax abatements, tax incentives, tax refunds, tax credit, tax exemptions Representatives award corporations, farmers, businesses, outsourcer sweatshops, and nonprofit, tax-exempt, organizations and Churches. And pay for the more stock dividends (money) OPEC Nations, Enron Stockholders, Hillarys, Chinese, Foreign and Domestic Investors and Stockholders (money marketers) market quarterly. In the wholesale and retail price of every product and service Human Beings use for life. And Government needs to build, maintain and operate schools, infrastructure, and provide local and national security, and Government services. That gets only product or service. With money derived from wages or independent business profit.

Needed to measure and maintain the strength and growth of this unaffordable economy and distribute wealth into OPEC Nations, Enron Stockholders, Hillarys, Chinese, Foreign and Domestic Investors and Stockholders portfolios.

And fund lottery, casino, and keno losers, unemployed workers, aliens, waitresses that pander for life for $2.00 per hour, insubordinate low-income, workers and volunteers without wages, Slaves, Child labor, and nonunion parasites willing to work for fewer wages than they can afford life that pays with welfare checks, food stamps, housing vouchers, and Medicaid.

Makes free, fair, and affordable commerce IMPOSSIBLE; Makes funding schools IMPOSSIBLE; Makes balancing every budget IMPOSSIBLE; Makes Government employees, Parents, Fathers disqualified for affirmative action with white skin, Veterans, Union workers, consumers, taxpayers, and America’s grandchildren’s children LIFE UNAFFORDABLE; and created Ohio’s $1.35 trillion budget deficit, the $40 trillion social security and the $14 trillion national debt. America’s grandchildren’s children are responsible to pay Chinese, Foreign and Domestic Investors and Stockholders interest with this debt until they are 18 years old. Then pay the debt with the $7.20 per hour government mandated labor wage.

America’s grandchildren’s children that go to bed hungry cannot afford life and pay this debt. With the $7.20 per hour Government mandated labor wage in a hundred million years. With money derived from wages or independent business profit.
