  • In the budget: for-profit charters cash in on expanded dropout program

The House budget included a provision to expand the state’s dropout recovery program, increasing the age for enrollment from 21 to 29. What this means is that a charter school can sign up adults by promising a high school diploma, collecting money from taxpayer-funded public school districts for two years. Do we know if they are effective? Certainly not. Do we know if they are profitable? Absolutely!

  • More fun with math: the horrible GOP school funding amendment

Tomorrow, the House GOP is likely to amend the Governor’s budget to change the school funding formula. They want to limit the size of cuts in state funding so that no district is cut by more than 20%.
