Citing a post on ThinkProgress that referenced our analysis of Governor Kasich’s liquor profits for JobsOhio proposal, MSNBC just discussed the Kasich plan at the top of the 10 p.m. broadcast of the Ed Schultz show. He brought on Senator Nina Turner to talk about it, and she was fired up.

Remember when all but two members of the Senate Democrats voted for Kasich’s JobsOhio plan? Turner reminds us that they were promised the privatized development corporation would be funded with private money. Turns out that was a lie. They are taking 30 years worth of stable revenue to the state and using it to give Mark Kvamme and JobsOhio some start up cash to help Bob Evans move across town. Or, as Senator Turner put it, they are privatizing the profits and socializing the risks.

We wonder if the House GOP remembers the administration’s promise to use private money to fund this venture. Actually we also wonder if, now that he’s no longer Development Director, future JobsOhio CEO Mark Kvamme will make a repeat appearance before Senate Finance.

Either way, we suspect this proposal may get a little pushback in committee and we’ll be there taking notes.

Note: if you’re interested in seeing Senator Turner, or how the Kasich proposal was covered, there is a replay of the Ed Show airing at 1 a.m. Set that DVR.

  1. Sen. Turner – I love you! Thank you, thank you, thank you for asking the question that’s puzzled me ever since the budget came out. RobsOhio isn’t being funded by the private sector. Let’s go one step further and replay the House and Senate floor debates on the creation bill and count how many Reps/Senators said it would be funded with private dollars.

Begs the question: what’s worse? Liars or dupes???

  2. Regardless of how it is funded how is JobsOhio even constitutional?

“nor shall the state ever hereafter become a joint owner, or stockholder, in any company or association in this state, or elsewhere, formed for any purpose whatever.”
