Based on our familiarity of new BWC administrator, Steve Buehrer, we don’t expect language in the budget to move forward on privatization of workers compensation in Ohio. Rather, we expect to see continued study of privatization. In June of 2011, the findings of the legislatively-created Competitive Workers’ Compensation Task Force (SR 322) will be available and will give some guidance on future actions for the agency.

We expect to see a review of benefits structure for injured workers.

Rate reform, a major accomplishment of the Strickland administration, may be undone. Look for changes to the discounts afforded companies that participate in group rating.
