Ohio Budget Preview: Public Safety
In the 2010-2011 Budget, the legislature attempted to remove the Highway Patrol from gas tax funding by increasing a variety of fees for registering vehicles and other activities. In the end, however, the patrol did receive some funds from the gas tax, obtained by reducing a discount that petroleum distributors receive for payment of the tax to the state.

Income tax rates to drop 4.2 percent in 2011
As Bloomberg reports, the final installment of 2005′s tax reform goes into effect on January 1st, reducing income tax rates by another 4.2 percent. Tax reform, passed in 2005 and embraced by Governor Strickland, has reduced revenue to the State of Ohio by $1.9 billion annually.
